Using literature as a tool in EFL teaching

In recent years, an interest in the role of literature as a source of foreign language learning has gained momentum for language teachers. Literary texts are seen as a welcome source of authentic language, providing an excellent basis for the teaching of the four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Getting to know literature contributes to a cultural understanding and may invoke personal involvement and a passion for reading. By using literary fragments as a tool in the language lesson, learners are introduced to a variety of authors, which helps them to choose novels for their language portfolio or reading list - or even to become avid readers.

My service to EFL teachers

Not all language teachers have the time to build lessons around literature fragments they would like to use in their classroom. For those interested I offer my expertise in designing made-to-measure assignments based on fragments from authentic British and American literature or newspaper articles. The CEFR levels are: B2, C1, C2 (upper intermediate, advanced or pre-academic learners of English as a foreign language).
